So they say...

"Trust me, it gets easier." These are the words of encouragement that were spoken to me today by a kind woman in the Target parking as I struggled to decide "Isla?? Kylie??? Target stuff? What or WHO do I load first into my tiny, non-keyless entry...make that non-power locking car?" Thoughts of self-doubt ran through my head as my almost 2 year old tried to climb out of the top of the cart, since she insists on sitting up there, leaving me to put Kylie in her car seat in the back of the cart and squeezing all of my purchased items on the very bottom of the cart.

I smiled politely at the lady, thankful for her sweet words and said, "I sure hope so."

After she left, I began to think about that comment and wonder-when does it get easier? When Isla turns 3 and is out of the terrible twos? Or when they are all in school? It can't be when my sweet girls are teenagers. I can tell you that out of experience from growing up with two sisters :) Maybe it gets easier when they are all out of the house, college educated, married with children of their own, or perhaps advanced in their careers. Maybe the lady in the Target parking lot just meant it gets easier when they are home and napping :) Who knows. All I can think is I asked for it and I sure got it, no regrets. For now I'm more than content at this moment as I hold my newbie who is smiling and cooing at me.

  1. Loading the car is a tough one! I remember! The order I had to do was: 1- Most likely to wander. 2- Least likely to wander. 3- The purse and the inanimate. 4- The cart (which must be put away very close to the running parked car with strapped in children, and it must be jogged to it's place no matter how bad of cramps you may have.)
And there are many a kind experienced woman out there who will understand, and many a judgmental condescending woman out there who will always think that they would do better than you are doing. ;)
But you sweet sister, are doing beautifully. I will only tell you that loading the car gets easier.

  3. Your sister is right! You are doing great. Parenting is HARD. :) Remember when I saw you and Kyle at the park ;) Well, I kind of forgot to let you know when our Mom and Tots group meets...until now! Tomorrow, Friday, @ 9:30ish, Salem Heights Church Gym. Hope to see you there! Jess
